At Esme, we believe your data belongs to you. We built Esme with a “Zero Knowledge” architecture, meaning we physically cannot read your messages or view your content.

End-to-End Encryption

Your privacy is our priority. Every message, photo, video, and file you send on Esme is End-to-End Encrypted (E2EE).

This means:

• Encryption happens on your device before any data is sent over the network.
• Only you and the intended recipient(s) have the keys to decrypt and view the content.
• We (Esme) do not have the keys. We cannot read your messages or see your media, even if we wanted to.
• No third party, government, or hacker can access your data while it is in transit or stored on our servers.

What Information We Collect

To provide our service, we collect the minimum amount of information necessary:

1. Account Information

To create an account, we may store basic information such as a username, email address, or phone number to authenticate you.

2. Encrypted Content

We store encrypted blobs of data (your messages and media) so they can be delivered to your devices and recipients. Because of E2EE, this data looks like random noise to us.

3. Service Metadata

We may process limited technical metadata (e.g., timestamps of when a message was sent) to ensure reliable delivery and synchronization across your devices. We do not use this metadata to profile you.

What We Do Not Collect

• Unencrypted Messages: We never store your messages in plain text.
• Usage Tracking: We do not track who you are messaging or build a social graph of your interactions for advertising purposes.
• Location Data: We do not track your real-time location.

Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data or message content to advertisers or third parties. Your data is yours.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or our website.
